Parent Teacher Interviews 11/19/08
Thursday November 27th are Parent Teacher Interviews. This takes place in our large gym from 6:30 to 8:30 pm. See you there.

Robert Bateman Calendars will also be sold on this evening for $18.00 as fundraisers for clubs and teams.

One Hour Early Dismissal Days 11/19/08
On Wednesday November 26th and Thursday November 27th, students will be dimissed at 1:30 which will allow parents who cannot make it to the Parent-Teacher Interviews on Thursday to visit thier son or daughter's classroom teachers. Visits are on a drop in basis. Maps will be available to direct you to the teacher classrooms.
Bus Schedule
Valley Transit bus #1 will arrive on Exbury at 1:40 and bus #4 will arrive at 1:47. School District buses will arrive at 1:30 and will depart at 1:35.

Grade 9 Vaccinations 11/10/08
Reminder that on Thursday November 13th, Grade 9 students who have completed the consent form will receive the Tetanus, Diptheria and Pertussis vaccinne. In addition, Gr 9 girls with consent forms will receive the first of two of the HPV vaccine.

Senior Girls Volleyball 10/22/08
Congratulation to the senior girls volleyball team for their 2-0 and 2-1 victories over Garibaldi and Pitt Meadows Secondary last night. Great hits by Erika Martin and Adrienne Bartlett. Great serving by Mikaila Mauro and Paige Dudzik. Great team effort by all.

The senior girl's volleyball has had a successful session so far, half way through the season and the team is in 3rd place in their league. The team has worked hard and improved tremendously since the beginning of the session.  Some highlights of the season are Michelle Scully's (team captain) great serves and leadership,  Paige Dudzik's amazing sets, digs and serves, and Erika Martin's unbeatable spikes. Good luck in the rest of your games and play-offs ladies.

Grad Planned Ski Trip10/01/08
Parents are advised that a number of graduating students from this school are endeavouring to organize a ski trip to Big White for a weekend at the end of semester one. Arrangements are being made through an organization called s-trip.com This is not a school approved or school district approved grad activity. No school personnel are involved in planning or organizing this event. No school personnel will be participating. Students involved have been asked to not use the name Robert Bateman Secondary as this suggests that this event is a school sanctioned activity. It is not.

Jr. Police Academy10/01/08
The Junior Police Academy will be running again this year. The dates are February 18, 25/March 4, 9-13 and will take place at Abbotsford Middle School. For those students that are interested in applying, the application and requirements can be found on the APD Website. The Senior Boys won their 3rd game in a row by defeating Hope on Tuesday by a score of  6 to 1. Some great teamwork and good skills helped produce some very nice goals. Goal scorers were:  Eric Vanderhoek with 2, Jacob Gosse, Dominik Kingshouse, Conor Hall and Scott Stevens. Senior boys soccer team won their 2nd game in a row vs. DW Grahm 2 - 1. Bateman opened the scoring with a great corner kick from Ryan Miller to Joacob Gross-Bellwood who finished off the play with a great header. Graham tied the game up but our German import, Dominik Vonigshausen won the game with a break away goal. The boys' next game is a home game against Hope.line

Senior Boys Soccer Game #19/24/08
On Tuesday, our Sr. Boys Soccer team captured their first win of the season in dramatic fashion against MEI. A bit of a shaky start and down by 2 goals, the team dominated the second half of the game scoring 3 straight to win 3-2. Goal scorers were Ryan Miller, Jacob Grosse-Bellwood and Eric Vanderhoek with the game winner on a great 3-way passing play.line

2008 District Scholarships 9/20/08
The following 2008 graduating students were awarded $1000.00 scholarships as a result of their performance in the following areas: Fine Arts (Visual Arts, Dance, Drama, Music); Applied Skills (Business Ed, Technology Ed, Home Economics); Physical Education; Second Language (including Aboriginal Languages). The $1000.00 award amount will consist of a $500.00 cheque and a $500.00 voucher that can be used toward a student’s post-secondary education tuition. Click here to see this year's recipents.

FHA-logoHPV Vaccine9/16/08
In BC all Gr 9 girls are eligible for a free series of HPV vaccine. This vaccine is being offered because it can prevent infection with the virus that causes most cases of cervical cancer. Grade 9 imunization is scheduled for mid November. Click here to read a letter from Superintendent Des McKay.

Congratulations to Mr. Rowell who coached the British Columbia Under 16yrs Rugby Team this past summer and whose team won a gold medal in Ottawa. On the team were two of Bateman's own, Michael Neufeldt and Jard Douglas. Congratulations to our national champions!

Congratulations to four of our newest students Jorden Best, Justin Douglas, Freddy Lyhne, and Daniel Markin whose Team Fraser Valley won gold at the Kelowna 2008 BC Summer Games. From this tournament, Jorden and Justin were also selected to play for the BC team in the Provincial Festival, which they also won.

Provincial Scholarship8/ 22/08
Twelve of Robert Bateman's 2008 graduates were awarded $1000.00 scholarships as a result of their performance on provincial examinations. To qualify, students had to write a minimum of three provincial examinations which included English 12. English plus the best two examination scores were used in the provincial calculation. In the 2007/08 school year, there were 95 Provincial scholarship winners in the Abbotsford School District. Click here to view this year's recipients.

Key Club Raises $13436.00 July 8/08
The Bateman Key Club recently completed its last fundraiser for the 2007/2008 school year and presented a cheque for $13436.00 to The Zajac Ranch for Children. Zajac Ranch hosts hundreds of children with chronic illnesses or disabilities who might not otherwise have a chance to enjoy a summer camp experience.
